A business profile can be one page or more and its primary purpose is to communicate to others so that they can network or communicate with you around common interests. Many employment websites, such as LinkedIn or Xing, offer an area where you can build a professional profile if you register for the website.
Social media plays a role in your business profile
Business profiles are the summaries that you create and promote online in order to further your career aspirations. The term is used to refer to individual profiles that you create, typically on business or professional networking websites, for job seeking or career advancement purposes.
They include but are not limited to the following information or content:
- your background and what skills you have to offer
- your objective and what position or opportunities you're looking for
- your professional experience
- your educational background and academic achievements
- professional and relevant personal interests
- school, club and community affiliations
- professional picture
- social media and communication accounts
- media such as photos, videos, etc. that highlights professional accomplishments
Business or professional profiles are used by job candidates
A job candidate is someone who is being considered for a job or employment opportunity. Typically, this is an individual applying for an open position. Active refers to anyone who is out of work and is in the process of looking for a job. Passive refers to anyone who is currently working but might be a prospect for a job or employment opportunity in the future.
The definition of both active and passive types is based around a relationship formed before the hiring process. So what does this tell us? Job opportunities can be pursued while you are out of work and also while you are employed.
In many cases, decision makers prefer to hire proven talent and may pursue actively employed individuals rather than the unemployed. Employers also like to hire who they know best. There is a higher comfort level with an established relationship and it is often a better business investment if employers can increase the chance of success by knowing the history of a potential hire or by speaking with someone who has worked with him/her. A more intimate knowledge helps employers qualify an individual's strengths and weaknesses or the potential fit into organizational culture.
Business profiles are great tools to showcase your skills and talents to employers. Job candidates and professionals of all kinds will benefit from building and managing their profiles as they are now a key tool for communicating and succeeding in today’s economy.
